Updated Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Lavern, “Vern”, or “Tiny” George Sutherland
1957 - 2022

It is with sadness that we share the passing of Lavern Sutherland.

Lavern, “Vern” George Sutherland, also known as “Tiny” was born April 16, 1957 in Fort St John, B.C. to parents George and Lillian.

Vern passed away at home on December 6, 2022. He was 65.

Vern found a lifelong career in the Oil patch. He started out working on the rigs as a roughneck and ended as a Drilling Fluids Technician/Supervisor. He took a 4 year break in his 30’s and became a Journeyman Electrician. He found he preferred the Oil patch and no routine, so he returned to it.

Vern, Ardis and her children, Cole and Tara-Lea began a life together in 1989. He was a loving Dad to Cole & Tara-Lea. On June 6, 1998, they married. He was a loving, wonderful and happy husband, dad and grandpa.

Vern started playing sports at a young age and always preferred team sports. Hockey, flag football, curling and golfing, but his favourite was pitching fastball.
Vern liked rafting, hunting and fishing with friends in younger years.

Vern was a great cook. He loved dancing, singing and music of all genres. He enjoyed gardening. He liked to tinker and fix or build things. An evening playing cards or games with friends or family was always filled with laughter. One of his favourite things was going on holidays in the RV, exploring, sightseeing & meeting people.
Vern had exceptional math skills. He also had an amazing ability to recognize faces. He may forget your name, but he would never forget your face. He had the uncanny ability to recognize people he had not seen in 40 – 50 years.

Vern was full of pearls of wisdom for his family. Vern’s favourite thing & most cherished, was time, with his grandchildren.

Vern had a great sense of humor and loved laughter. He was an exceptional storyteller. He was very social and people gravitated to him. He always felt fortunate and thankful for a life filled with friendships, good times and laughter.

Vern leaves behind a legacy of friendships and a family grateful for the time, love and laughter they shared with him. He will be forever missed.
