Obituary of Marjorie Jean Birchall

Marjorie Birchall passed peacefully to her eternal home on September 1, 2023 at the age 99. Marj was born to Louis and Edith Shand on January 13, 1924, the youngest of three children.  The family homesteaded forty miles northwest of Calgary near Cremona, on a quarter bisected by a meandering creek, and overlooking the mountains. She rode horseback to a one room school, from Grade One to Grade Nine. She boarded in Carstairs as a high school student, then trained as a comptometer operator, an adding machine of that time.

In 1950, Marj married Clair Birchall. They lived in Edmonton where they had their two children, Norma and Ron; from there, they migrated north to Dawson Creek. Years later, they moved to Fort St. John, where they were loving and devoted grandparents to Larissa and Christy, Norma and John Stephens' children. Marj enjoyed 56 years of devoted marriage before Clair's passing in 2008. In 2012, Marj moved in with family. She was still very mobile and eager to be a part of whatever was going on. Marj spent the last seven years of her life in Peace Villa. She had wonderful caregivers in Sunflower Lane who helped bring joy to that season of her life.

While the family will miss her deeply, we are grateful for Mom's gracious and godly example, and for the many years we spent together. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marj to the Gideons.

The funeral for Marj will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Christian Life Center in Fort St. John. At 3:30 pm we will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery, then return to Christian Life Center for fellowship and refreshments.
