Obituary of Murray Christmas (Trondson)

Murray Christmas (Trondson)

1950 - 2024

In loving memory of Murray Christmas (Trondson) who passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Fort St. John, BC.

Murray was born in Flin Flon, MB, on February 27, 1950, to Mary and Art Trondson.  He was the eldest of six children with one brother, Arne, and four sisters, Karen, Susan, Diane, and Kristin who, along with their families, are mourning Murray's passing.

Murray will be deeply missed by his two sons, Devyn and Erik of Edmonton, his three grandchildren, Trystyn, Sarah, and Rachel and by his special niece and nephew, Sherry and Harley.  He leaves behind to feel his loss two uncles, Jimmy and Gordon, his many cousins, his close friends in Fort St. John and his long-time friends in Flin Flon.

Murray married Connie Hanson in 1970 and they moved to Edmonton, where he was hired by Canada Post.  He worked for Canada Post for 43 years, transferring to Fort St. John in the late 90's and retiring in 2015.  His job and coworkers meant a lot to him.

Throughout Murray's life he had a love of music which developed early, from growing up listening to his mother sing along with CFAR radio, to spending his youth as part of the growing Northern Manitoba music scene.  He joined one of the first rock groups, the Blue Shannons, as lead singer, then became the singer for one of the most popular bands of the mid '60's, Out of the Blue.  Besides entertaining the many teenagers at their weekend dances, the band travelled to perform at Expo '67 in Montreal with their cool haircuts and mod suits.  The band and Murray reunited and performed at reunions in Flin Flon at the Whitney Forum in 1994, 2000 and 2017.

Murray was known for his kindness and loving nature, wit and a wonderful sense of humour.  He loved hockey and baseball and was a life long fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays.

The family would like to thank Dr. Carly Loomes, special nurses Ryman, Olivia, and Jennifer and all of the medical team who provided Murray with exceptional care and attention in his final days.  A special thanks also goes out to his good friends, Jason and Willy, who watched over Murray and cared for him in these last few months.

In accordance with Murray's wishes, there will not be a formal memorial service.
