Obituary of Sarah Ellen Lucas
Sarah Ellen Lucas, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and great Grandmother, passed away on June 20, 2024, in Fort St John, BC leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Sarah was born on October 22, 1944, in Westlock, AB, to Ralph and Sadie Stack. After losing her father at the age of 3, her mother’s job as a schoolteacher took them to many places over the years before they ended up in the Peace Country, where she met her husband, and they had 3 children.
In the late 70's, she moved to maple ridge where she had her own business and worked as a care aide in a care home. In 1985, Sarah moved back to the Peace Country to be with her family. She furthered her education, receiving a business admin degree.
In 1996, she met her common law husband, Rocky Longpre, and they built a wonderful life together. They enjoyed several road trips and spending time with the grandchildren.
In 2013, due to health reasons, she and Rocky moved into Heritage Manor 2 where she lived for the next 11 years. She enjoyed the friendships she made there and loved looking after the birthday cards, making sure that every resident received a birthday card signed by everyone on their birthdays.
Sarah found joy in the simple pleasures, whether it was playing darts with friends, canasta with family, crib with her grandchildren, colouring with her great grandchildren, or simply eating a strawberry sundae. Her favorite trip was the cruise to Alaska that she enjoyed with her family for her 75th birthday.
She had a curiosity about people and their stories, and she made it a point to connect with everyone she met, from care aides and housekeepers to nurses and fellow residents at Heritage Manor 2, as well as the hospital. She loved to hear about their backgrounds and their families.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters Janet (Paul), and Shirley (Larry); her son Eugene (Nadine); her grandchildren Andrea (Sam), Robert (Sarah), Kyler (Jeremy), Kymmie (Tanner), Tyrel, Jayci-Lee (Braden), and Kasey; and her great grandchildren Quentin, Cecily, Emmy, Cole, Maisy, Eli, and Owen. She also leaves two sisters and her “baby brother” Rory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Heritage Manor 2 and the hospital, for their exceptional care and compassion during Sarah’s time there.
She was predeceased by her father Ralph, mother Sadie, sister Patty, and her common law husband Rocky.
As per her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service and she will be laid to rest in Needles, BC with her father.
Rest in peace Mom, you will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
