Obituary of Laura Deborah Amendt

Laura Amendt

1958 - 2026

Born in the summer of 1958 and on to new life in the summer of 2026

    It is with a keen sense of personal loss that I write this announcement of Laura's new lifestyle beyond these earthly bounds. 

I know that after over 3 years of pain, and restrictions in several areas, this will be a welcome relief for her, but for my family and me, there is a selfish sadness.

Laura grew up in a loving home with her parents, brothers and sister: playing music, doing high school rodeo with her brother and lots of babysitting.

      We met at carpentry school in the fall of 1977, and were married in May of 1978. I never had a girlfriend before that, but said to the guy beside me that I was going to marry her. This still seems odd how I knew, or that she, being the most beautiful girl in the school, would go out with a one-legged guy. I even told her that if we were to marry, that I was intending to follow the Bible and the teachings of Jesus in life, even though I wasn't at the time. She decided to stick with me, and so that is how our story together began.

      One day, Laura was asking God if he was real, and if he was, then would he write a phone number in the clouds.  A number appeared, but she said she didn't know that one, and could he write another one? She recognized this one, called her sister-in-law Bev, and committed her life to Jesus. I hadn't yet, so I did shortly after. After that, we were led to go to Bible school for the winter.

     We were a gifted team. She remembered names, while I numbers.  So Laura did phone stuff, and I did on-site. I have pictures of her with a phone on each ear.

       Our children were getting big, and we had made the foolish mistake of shutting off the tap, so in ‘99 we adopted 4 children, and in ‘04 we got 2 more. Laura always enjoyed children. She home schooled many of ours, as well as other children, and helped at Baldonnel school as a teacher assistant.

      I could carry-on but just to say that her life was committed to Jesus, which in turn was reflected in her dealings with family and friends. 

I know Laura is in more loving and capable hands now, but I will miss her, and know many others will also.
