In Loving Memory of Hans Fredslund Ostergaard

"Big Grandpa" / "Grampy"

 

Hans Fredslund Ostergaard, of Fort St. John, BC, and formerly of Fort Nelson, BC,

passed away on July 12, 2026, at the age of 88.

 

Hans was born in Olds, Alberta, the sixth of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Ostergaard. Hans was best known as a hardworking man with clever comments and a dry sense of humor. You could often find him out in the field making hay, looking after his cattle, fixing broken equipment, or enjoying a handful of treats.

 

Hans grew up in Alberta and left home at an early age to come to Fort St. John to pursue a career on the oil rigs, where he met his wife, Lorita. A few years later, Hans and Lorita moved to Fort Nelson where they had three children Julius, Grace and Suzanne. Hans started out with co-owning Texaco Service Station and then went on to own and operate Bumper to Bumper for 30 years. Hans and Lorita reunited after some time apart and returned to Fort St. John, where Hans continued to work hard as a farmer well into his 80’s alongside his son, Julius.

 

Hans had a special love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always made sure the children were filled up with treats.

 

Hans is survived by his loving wife, Lorita Ostergaard; his children, Julius (Shelley) Ostergaard, Grace Skolos, and Suzanne (Kurt) Langdon; his grandchildren, Suzanne (Matt) Svisdahl, Cory (Jocelyn) Langdon, Natasha (Brandon) Derksen, Gary (Alisha) Skolos, Kelsea (Blake) Williams, and Tyffany (Lee) Anstiss; his 14 great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, Ruth Taggart and Gerda Blainey of Alberta.

 

Hans will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quick wit, love of family, and the many memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
