Joan Doyle

1944 - 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Doyle at the age of 82.

Joan Doyle (nee Taylor) was born March 30, 1944, the eldest of sixteen children born to John and Jean Taylor. Joan grew up in Taylor, BC and attended some of her elementary school education in Dawson Creek.

Joan married Albert (Alf) Doyle in 1961 and together they raised a family of four children. They lived in Taylor, Dawson Creek, Yale, Dogwood Valley, and then returned to Taylor in 1978 to finish raising their family. Joan and Alf parted in 1997, and Joan moved to Fort St. John into a little house she was very happy in.

Joan spent her working life as a bookkeeper and retired a few months shy of 30 years working in the Land Surveying Industry. In her free time Joan volunteered with the Girl Guides of Canada, spending several years acting as the Commissioner for Taylor District. In her retirement, Joan became an avid curling fan and baseball fan. Winter would find Joan cheering on the Canadian men’s and women’s curling teams on tv, catching every broadcast possible. And when the Grand Slam of Curling had stops in Dawson Creek or Grande Prairie, she and some family members would take the trip to see elite curling in person. Spring through October was spent cheering on her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. Getting to take the trek to Toronto to catch a game in person was a highlight for Joan. Joan was an active craftswoman until her hands no longer allowed her to do the intricate work required. Many of us are very blessed to have a quilt, cross-stitch, or a knitted item Joan lovingly created for us.

Joan was a loving daughter, mother, grandma, sibling, niece, and friend. Her gentle spirit and kindness will be sorely missed. Joan had a wonderful sense of humour and had the sweetest laugh.

Joan is pre-deceased by her husband Alf, son Donnell, son-in-law Gordon, parents John and Jean, brothers Douglas, Robert, David, Ted, and Rodney; sisters Shirley, Barbara, and Bonnie (Dennice), nieces Penny and Gail and nephew Matthew and one great-nephew Matthew; and brothers-in-law Al, George, Jamie, Gerry, and Gordon.

Joan is survived by her daughters Della, Eleanore, and Roberta, grandchildren Nicala (Jesse) and Alexander, daughter-in-law Carrie, siblings Don (Lorane), Marlene, Pat, Dianne, Tom (Gail), Ken, Kathy (Andy), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

After a short battle with cancer, Joan passed away peacefully with her daughters Della and Roberta by her side.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wright for his kindness and compassion, Dr. Boudreau, the community nurses, and the palliative society.

A memorial tea will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Taylor Community Hall, Taylor, BC from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.

A private family interment ceremony will follow at the Peace Valley Cemetery Columbarium.
