Obituary of Philip Michael Strandlund
Philip Michael Strandlund, 72, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 25, 2026. Phil was born on March 14, 1954, in Fort St. John, British Columbia, and made his home in Cecil Lake.
During his teenage years, while attending school, he worked for local farmers and at the sawmill. After graduating from high school in 1973, he completed his apprenticeship as a heavy-duty mechanic and built a long career that reflected his dedication, skill, and strong work ethic. Throughout his life, Phil worked for the Department of Highways, Inland Kenworth, Pe-Ben, Clover Farms, School District #60, Formula Powell, and Big Horn & Brakes. During his time with Pe-Ben, he formed a trucking company with Alvin Day, Phil being the mechanic and Alvin the driver. Along the way, he built countless long-lasting friendships.
Phil’s love for his family was unmatched. He cherished every moment with his children and grandchildren, whether playing Crazy 8’s, chess, or gathering around a campfire. Some of his happiest memories were made traveling to Las Vegas and Arizona. He had a deep love for the outdoors and treasured time spent quadding, camping, canoeing, and shooting with family and friends. Many days were spent at the cabin he built with his son Curtis on the edge of Cecil Lake. He also had an interest in aviation and all things that flew. He was always up for an air show or a visit to a historic airplane museum. In their younger years Jan and Phil loved exploring the open road together on his motorcycle. After raising the kids, Phil and Jan happily returned to that passion, setting out on many memorable adventures throughout the region.
Phil was truly a jack of all trades. He loved tinkering, fabricating, and solving mechanical problems. Friends and neighbors often called on him for advice, and he found great joy in sharing his knowledge and helping others. Phil was always ready with a story, a joke, or a laugh.
In recent years, mobility challenges limited the activities he loved most, but he still found comfort in music and regular conversations with friends.
Phil is remembered by his loving wife of 48 years, Janet; son Curtis (Cora); daughter Kelsey (Jonny); grandchildren Christopher and Tanis; and step-grandchildren Jasper, Jarvis, Manny, and Axel. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice, and Algot Strandlund; his siblings Shirley, Eddie, Dennis, Noreen, and Selma; his father-in-law Jacob Dueck; and his sisters-in-law Pauline Tallman and June Dueck; brother-in-law Norbert Fischer.
Phil leaves behind an immeasurable void in our hearts. He will be forever missed, deeply loved, and remembered always. Phil’s faith in God gives us comfort in knowing he is at peace. Until we meet again.
Jan, Kelsey, and Curtis would like to extend their most heartfelt thank you to family, friends, and the community for their support in this difficult time.
Upon Phil’s request there will not be a service.
