Obituary of Vivian Carol Stewart
Vivian Stewart
1956-2026
It is with great sadness that we announce that Vivian Carol Stewart (nee Hink), of Fort St. John, BC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Fort St. John Hospital on April 12, 2026 after a short battle with lung cancer at the age of 69.
Vivian was born to Rudy and Elsie Hink in Morden, Manitoba on August 27, 1956, the third of their four children. She grew up on the Hink family farm just south of Miami, Manitoba, where she attended elementary and high school. She received her diploma as a Registered Nurse in 1990 from Red River Community College in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She put her diploma to good use, holding nursing and home care positions in Manitoba and in Northern BC. She also used her nursing experience to help care for her family.
In June 1973, she married her first husband, Rick Hamilton. They had two children, Jason and Adam. The two separated in 1992 and their divorce was finalized in 1996.
In 1992, she moved with her youngest son to the Dawson Creek and Fort St John area, where she later met, then married her second husband, Robert Stewart. They were wed July 31, 1999, in Fort St. John, BC. She was happy to welcome Robert’s three daughters, Tanya, Cheralee, and Kristy to her family.
Vivian played many sports growing up and continued playing into her adult life. She played baseball, basketball, hockey, volleyball, and curling in her youth. She also took piano lessons and was a part of the Miami 4H Sewing Club. As an adult, she continued to curl and play softball. She also competed for several years in the Canadian National Mule Derby, which was held annually in Miami, an event in which she once took the top prize.
Vivian had a lifelong love of animals, especially horses, having owned several over the course of her life, as well as her favourite dog, Boo. She was involved in many organizations involving animals over the years, most recently as part of the North Peace Light Horse Association.
Vivian’s greatest love was her family. She dearly loved her two sons and cared for her three stepdaughters as her own. She adored all of her grandchildren and took great joy in their many exploits.
Vivian is survived by her husband Robert, her children, Jason (Brenda), Adam (Kara), Tanya, Cheralee (Jamie), and Kristy, her sisters Margaret (Alan) and Brenda (Cliff) as well as 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren along with many other friends and family members. She was predeceased by her father, Rudy Hink (1996), her mother, Elsie Hink (2006) and her brother, Wayne (2014).
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer with details to be announced.
Hamre’s Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre, Fort St. John, BC, in care of the arrangements.
