Obituary of Dan Kramer
Daniel Nichalaus Kramer, age 89, passed away peacefully while residing at Peace Villa Care Home on March 14, 2026 in Fort St. John, British Columbia.
Danny was born on December 4, 1936, in Spalding, Saskatchewan. He was the eldest of seven children born to Peter and Genevieve Kramer. He grew up with a strong sense of family, responsibility, and a deep connection to the land – values that stayed with him throughout his life.
Danny and his father ventured west in September of 1957 and settled in Fort St. John. The rest of the family joined later that year.
In August 1964, Danny married the love of his life, Maureen Abbott. Together they built a life rooted in family and hard work, raising their two daughters, Deanne and Karla.
Danny spent much of his life behind the wheel, working as a truck driver in roles ranging from local delivery to long-haul routes. In his later years, he became a familiar and friendly face in the community as a local city bus driver, a job he truly enjoyed.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and rural life. Danny enjoyed playing baseball and curling, and he took great pride in farming and branding. An avid horseman, he found joy in driving pony chariots and his beloved fjord horses on wagon rides. He was also a devoted fan of the professional chuckwagon circuit, rarely missing an opportunity to follow the sport and teach others the ropes. He loved making a spirited bet on his favourite teams.
Danny was predeceased by his parents Peter and Genevieve Kramer, his beloved wife of 49 years, Maureen, father-in-law Bill Abbott, mother-in-law Evelyn Abbott, brother-in-law Bill Abbott, infant sister Marion Kramer, sister Yvonne Wiles, brother-in-law Doug Wiles, brother Allan Kramer, and nephew John Kramer.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Deanne Hall and Karla (Scott) Travis, grandchildren Kayla (Stephen) Eicher and Nick (Sky) Hall, and his cherished great grandchildren Jeremy, Jayme, and Jaylynn. He is also survived by his siblings Janice (Tommy) Jarratt, Ron (Noreen) Kramer, and Sharol Hofstrand, his brothers-in-law Jim (Janet) Abbott and Graham Abbott, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Danny will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family, and his passion for the simple pleasures of life. His quiet strength, steady presence, and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
At Danny's request there will be no formal service. The family plans to have a celebration of life at the cabin, one of Danny's favourite places to spend time.
The family would like to extend gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Abbass and the doctors and nurses at the Fort St. John General Hospital. They would also like to thank the staff at the Peace Villa Spruce Pod for their 5 months of tenderly caring for Danny.
