Obituary of Dale Philip Hofstrand

Dale Philip Hofstrand

June 9th, 1953 – February 21st, 2026

Dale Philip Hofstrand, resident of Pouce Coupe, passed away on February 21, 2026, at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, following a heart attack. He was 72 years old.

Born in Fort St. John Providence Hospital, Dale was raised on a farm in Montney with strong roots in hard work and community values that would define his entire life. Agriculture wasn’t just his career; it was who he was. Dale spent his working years serving the farming community, beginning as an elevator operator at the age of 19 for Alberta Wheat Pool and later with Prairie Coast Equipment in Dawson Creek. He sold John Deere equipment and built lasting relationships with the farmers he so genuinely enjoyed working alongside. In addition to his employment, he was also a dedicated grain farmer helping his father and brother farm many acres of land. He took pride in the land, believed in the value of an honest day’s work, and made countless connections throughout his career. He thoroughly enjoyed crop watching - driving slowly by countless fields, admiring their growth, and annoying every passenger in his vehicle.

In his younger years, Dale loved playing hockey and men’s fastball, bringing both competitiveness and camaraderie to the rink and the ball diamond. He also found great joy in hunting, fishing, and checking the trapline which provided a deep connection to the outdoors.

Later in life, Dale could often be found curling, golfing, or, most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren Ethan, Hudson, Harrison, Olivia, and Breckin and affectionately referred to them as “Olivia and the Meatheads,” a nickname that perfectly captured his playful spirit and sense of humor.

Dale was a man with a big personality and an even bigger presence. He was known for telling tall tales with a straight face, keeping friends, family, and clients entertained for years. He loved visiting, loved connecting, and never missed an opportunity for conversation. His storytelling, laughter, and ability to make people feel welcome will be deeply missed.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Marty (Kelly), Michael (Ashley), and Michelle (Bryce), and his cherished grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, colleagues, and the many members of the agricultural community whose lives he touched.

Dale is predeceased by his parents, Carlyle and Lynda Hofstrand, brother Terry Hofstrand, sister-in-law Heidi Hofstrand, niece Nicole Hofstrand and granddaughter Katelyn Hofstrand.

Dale’s legacy lives on in the fields he worked, the friendships he built, the stories he told, and most of all, in the family he loved so deeply.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the many people involved in Dale’s final journey - the Dawson Creek paramedics and ER staff, the medevac pilot and flight crew, the staff at the Foothills Hospital ER department especially Dr. James Huffman and Charge Nurse Shannon, and the MacInnis and Holloway Funeral Home. Thank you for your kindness and dedication to your important fields.

There will be no formal service at this time. The family plans to gather in the summer to mark Dale’s passing with a gravestone at the Montney Cemetery.
