Obituary of Kenneth Alexander Cameron

Kenneth Alexander Cameron

December 30, 1940 – February 21, 2026

Ken was born on December 30th, 1940 in Dawson Creek to Alex and Bea Cameron. He eventually enjoyed having 3 sisters and a brother to grow up with on the farm just a couple miles out of Dawson Creek. There he developed his love for horses. A horse was bought on the condition that Ken share his bike with his sisters. He then was all cowboy and spent many a day riding the hills and trails. Competition riding at the fall fairs became more important than sharing in the farm work at home. He took up his mother's hobby of leather tooling and became a leather artist. After finishing school, he had different jobs either working for delivery services in Dawson Creek or at a plywood plant in Savona, BC. He met and married Isabella Reid and settled in Dawson Creek. Sadly, they divorced years later.

While having the Stampede Shop in Dawson Creek he developed his craft. He also was involved in different organizations where he held positions on the Dawson Creek City Council, president of the Dawson Creek Exhibition Association or in hunting and wildlife management. When he moved, he went on to teach his craft in both Bowden and Red Deer, Alberta. K.C. Saddlery was not only a western wear and tack store but also a school where he taught all things leather. He was chosen by the Calgary Stampede organizers to make saddles for the champions of the Stampede. While running the store and school he enjoyed his horses and the cowboy life. He loved the many customers and their stories. Due to economic changes to his business, he sadly closed his business a few years ago. He moved to a rural property close to Rolla, BC where he continued making leather goods. He passed away at home after his last entry in his journal. He will be sadly missed by friends and family. Left to mourn are two sisters, Mary Zimmer of Fort St. John and Judy (Garett) Nicols of Las Vegas as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his brother Art (Inge) Cameron and his sister Connie (Dale) Myers, brother-in-law Ernie (Mary) Zimmer, and niece Eroca Nicols.

So much more could be said about his day-to-day life, his faith, his political ideas or his opinions on almost everything. Those that knew him would be able to add pages of experiences that they shared. A special thank you to all those who so generously saw to his needs and his horses.

A memorial coffee hour will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
