
Obituary of Bill Prokopow
William (Bill) Prokopow, a beloved husband, father, and cherished member of the Fort St. John community, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on April 6, 1940, in the small town of Rockhaven, Saskatchewan, Bill's journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Bill was the loving husband of Laura, with whom he shared a deep bond that spanned over six decades. Their partnership was a testament to the power of love and companionship, as they navigated the joys and challenges of life together. Bill took immense pride in being a father to his son, Henry, instilling in him the values of hard work, kindness, and community service that he held dear.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers Walter, Alex, and Peter, as well as his sister Mary. He is survived by his brother Mike, who shared countless memories and experiences with Bill throughout their lives. The loss of Bill leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, who will forever cherish the moments they spent together.
Throughout his life, Bill was an active member of the Independent Order of Foresters (IOF), where he served as a Deputy. His commitment to the organization reflected his dedication to helping others and supporting those in need. Bill was not only a leader but also a compassionate friend to many, always ready to lend a hand or offer a listening ear.
In addition to his work with the IOF, Bill was a steadfast supporter of various charities and fundraisers within the Fort St. John community. His generous spirit and willingness to contribute to the betterment of others made a lasting impact on those around him. Bill's commitment to community service extended to his involvement with the local Horticultural Society, where he found joy in nurturing plants and sharing his love for gardening with others.
Bill's passion for gardening was matched only by his unique talent for painting Easter eggs. This delightful hobby brought him immense joy, and he often spent hours creating intricate designs that would bring smiles to the faces of family and friends. His artistic flair and creativity reflected his vibrant personality, and those who were fortunate enough to receive his beautifully painted eggs will forever treasure them as tokens of his love.
The interment will be on February 17, 2026, at 1pm, at Woodlawn Cemetery, a final resting place that reflects the beauty of his life and the love he shared with those around him. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Latter-Day Saints Church on February 17, 2026, at 1:30pm. All are welcome to attend both the interment and service to honor his memory, share stories that echo the warmth of his spirit.
Bill's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knows no bounds. As we remember Bill, let us carry forward his spirit of kindness, generosity, and community service, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.
