Obituary of Elmer John Gerber
Elmer John Gerber
July 16, 1930 – December 6, 2025
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Elmer John Gerber on December 6, 2025, in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Born in Ontario, Canada, on July 16, 1930, he was pre-deceased by Mary, his wife of 41 years, and survived by Judy, his wife of 26 years. Elmer lived 95 years marked by hard work, quiet strength, and deep faith in God, and he was beloved by generations of family. His strong Christian faith shaped how he worked, how he served his community, and most importantly, how he led and loved those closest to him.
Elmer was a lifelong farmer, logger, and gardener. He approached every task with care and determination. If you ever tasted one of his tomatoes or lived in a log cabin he built, you were touched by that. If you were paying close attention, you caught his gentle sense of humor too. Mentoring young men, prayer, or lending a hand were ways that he expressed care. His kindness wasn’t something he did - it was who he was.
Even near the end of his life, he enjoyed talking about logging skidders and timber contracts — things that were familiar and meaningful to him throughout his years.
His family and friends continue to be influenced by his example, and try to keep their gardens weed-free. Elmer leaves behind a legacy of strength and faith.
The family will host a Celebration of Life on May 25, 2026, at Evangel Chapel in Fort St. John, BC
