“Stan” was born in Taber, Alberta to parents Peter and Mary (nee. Dyck) Hildebrandt. Stan was raised primarily in the East Kootenays with his 11 siblings. His family lived in the small coal mining town of Sparwood,BC where he resided until adulthood. He moved north to Hudson’s Hope in 1995 with his then wife (Lisa nee. Wildman) and their two young daughters.
Stan worked as a journeyman electrician for Westar Mines until 1992. With the shutdown of the mines, he pursued employment with BC Hydro which brought his family briefly to Castlegar, BC then North to the small town of Hudson’s Hope, BC. There he worked at the GM Shrum Generating Station and the W.A.C. Bennett Dam. Many of his co-workers became and remained lifelong friends. He worked briefly driving haul-trucks for local business owner Omar Kirkeeng as well as doing residential electrical jobs locally before being hired permanently by Westcoast Energy where he became a Plant Operator until his retirement.
Stan was a proud and dignified man. An avid outdoorsman, his favourite pastimes included hunting and fishing, as well as trapping and bushcraft. He was a member of the Canadian Rangers and the Bullhead Mountain Curling Club. He loved his family, friends and neighbours deeply and shared many good times and laughter over the years.
Stan was pre-deceased by his father, Peter Hildebrandt, his mother, Mary Hildebrandt (nee. Dyck) as well as one sister, Grace - in infancy, and his beloved younger brother Kevin.
Stan leaves to mourn his two daughters and 5 grandchildren; Alison Hildebrandt with her children Sean, Brenna, and Quinn Rice, and Holly Leier (nee. Hildebrandt) with her husband Jeremy, and children Berrett Alexander and Lily Leier. He also leaves behind his siblings; Bob (Darlene) Hildebrandt, Wilma Hutchinson, Jim Hildebrandt, Carol (Tom) Adamack, Dennis (Nancy) Hildebrandt, Debra Robertson, Nancy Girard, Brenda(Dale) Pollard, Gary (Ruby) Hildebrandt as well as one cousin (of many) Norman (Sherry) Neufeld, who was as close as a sibling and remained his best friend until the end. Stan also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews, grand-nieces/nephews, and even great grand-nieces/nephews. As well as beloved friends and neighbours who have been like family to him over the years.
A memorial service and tea for Stan will be held in Hudson’s Hope at the Bullhead Mountain Curling Club at 2pm on December 16, 2025. As well, in the Spring of 2026, we will have a graveside service in Sparwood, BC - Stan’s hometown. Date to be determined.
