Les Lamerton

Obituary of Les Lamerton

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Brian Lamerton on October 22, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.

Les was born in Victoria, BC, on January 10, 1945. He grew up in Nimpkish Lake on the north end of Vancouver Island, where he studied to become a heavy-duty mechanic. In 1971, he moved to Fort St. John, where he worked for the City Maintenance Department before deciding on a new path. He bought a quarter section of land and learned how to farm.

As if farming didn’t keep him busy enough, Les saw an opportunity to start his own business and created High ‘N Dry Eavestroughing, where he worked as a subcontractor in residential construction. After many years of living and working in Fort St. John, he eventually retired and, in 2010, moved to the relatively warmer climate of Armstrong, BC.

Les was a devoted family man, loyal friend, and dedicated neighbour. He loved playing board games and cards and sharing his love of the outdoors with his family and many friends. For holidays, he enjoyed travelling with his fifth-wheel RV throughout the province and the western United States.

Les enjoyed hunting in the BC wilderness, as well as fishing for trout in regional lakes and salmon in Prince Rupert, Terrace, and other coastal areas. While in Fort St. John, he started trap shooting and quickly proved himself to be very competitive in the sport. Les won numerous awards throughout British Columbia, Washington State, California, and Arizona.

Les was also an avid curler and enjoyed the activity first in Fort St. John, then in Armstrong, where he and his partner won the Provincial Stick Curling Championship. After moving to Armstrong, Les translated his innate hand-eye coordination skills into golfing, which became another activity he enjoyed with family and friends. In his last full game, he even managed a hole-in-one before he was forced to quit due to his health.

Les’ family would like to thank the care team at the Vernon Cancer Clinic and the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for the excellent care he received during the past ten years. Also notable is the Community Care Team in Armstrong for being such amazing support during the last few months.

Les was predeceased by his father, Roland Brian Lamerton, his mother, Mildred Lamerton, and his sister, Joan Firestone. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his daughters, Kerri (Wayne) and Arlene (Steve); his sons, Marc (Tracy) and Gilles (Alisa); eight grandchildren (Tyler, Riley, Devin, Allyson, Ava, Alex, Amelie, and Sophie); eight great-grandchildren; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous friends.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life to be held at the Armstrong Curling Club on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
