Carl Giesbrecht

Obituary of Carl Giesbrecht

Carl Giesbrecht was born in Fort St John on March 24, 1965, to Jacob and Katherine Giesbrecht. He grew up on a farm in Prespatou, where he was always willing to lend a hand to farmers in the surrounding area.
He also worked various farming jobs in the community. In time, he took over the family farm and continued the hard work and dedication he learned from his parents.

In 2008, Carl moved to Fort St John, where he worked at Cando and held many different roles over the years.  In 2014, he began a paper route with the Alaska Highway News – a job he truly enjoyed. Carl loved greeting people on his route each morning and took pride in making sure everyone got their paper, no matter the weather. In 2020, he was recognized by the Alaska Highway News as the Best Paper Carrier in the “Best of the Best” People’s Choice Awards – a reflection of his reliability and the high regard of his community. He continued faithfully until the paper closed in October 2023. Alongside his work, Carl often took on house-sitting jobs for families in the community, caring for their homes and animals with the same reliability and warmth he showed in everything he did.

On May 5th, 2025, Carl was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and bravely faced an esophageal dilation procedure soon after. The procedure was successful, and he remained strong and hopeful, surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends. On September 2nd, he was admitted to the Fort St John Hospital, where he continued to receive compassionate palliative care until the Lord called him home on October 14th, 2025.

Carl leaves to mourn:
Siblings - Peter (Iris) Giesbrecht, Ann (Carl) Dyck, Jake (Martha) Giesbrecht,
Sarah (Neil) Klassen, Henry (Tina) Giesbrecht
Many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Katherine Giesbrecht, and by two very dear friends.

Carl will be remembered as a loving brother, uncle, and friend – someone who cared deeply for his family and always had time for those around him. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be missed by all who knew him. Carl’s strength, kindness, and quiet humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is now at peace in the arms of his Lord and Savior.

A heartfelt thank you from the family for all the prayers and visits during Carls last days.
