Obituary of Rose Ann Lessing
In Loving Memory of Rose Lessing
February 5, 1947 – June 20, 2025
Rose Lessing was born in Cecil Lake, BC, to Sarah and Walter Green. Rose was born at home at Cecil Lake to Sarah and Walter Green. She was the 9th of 11 children. She is survived by her immediate family; her sons Brett (late Sheri); and Bryan (Sandra), her daughter Erika (Robin); Grandchildren Trent, Terrence, Amanda Gifford (Charles); Jordan (Cody) and Lane (Madeline); great grandchildren Tayia, Nash and Kate . As well as, Sisters Theresa, Irene and Brothers Tom (Shirley); Robert (Frances). Predeceased by her parents Walter and Sarah; brothers: Walter, Bill, Allen, Emil, Leonard and sister Joyce.
Throughout her life, she lived in many communities — from Cecile Lake, to McLeese Lake, Quesnel, Fort St. John, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Oliver, and West Kelowna. Along with her many homes, her travels took her to Omak Stampede, PEI, New Brunswick, Mexico, Vancouver Island and Dubai.
Rose was known for her strong work ethic and versatility, taking on roles that ranged from government offices and hospital departments to backcountry camp kitchens. She was sharp, dependable, and one of the fastest typists anyone had ever seen. But more than anything, Rose found meaning not in the work she did, but in the people she loved.
Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. She gave her love freely, showed up without hesitation, and poured her heart into raising a family that adored her right back. Time with grandma (great grandma) meant feeling safe, laughing easily, and knowing you were deeply loved.
Rose loved the simple, beautiful things in life — cooking and baking for those she loved, tending to her flower garden, a new bird at the feeder, or a soft tune to hum while doing the dishes. She could often be heard humming or singing a little melody under her breath, bringing calm to whatever space she was in.
Rose also loved a little excitement now and then. She looked forward to the Kentucky Derby each year, never missed a Lotto Max draw, and delighted in a fun night at the casino,
In her final years, Rose moved between the homes of her children, helping raise the next generation, offering guidance, comfort, and pancakes in equal measure. She faced illness with grace and strength, and passed peacefully with family nearby — just after celebrating her 78th birthday surrounded by those she loved most.
