Obituary of Evelyn Sheila Hards

Sheila Hards Volz
1932 - 2025


It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Hards Volz on June 16, 2025, in Fort St. John, BC.


Sheila was born on July 23, 1932 to Jack and Bertha Elliott in Kamloops BC. She was the oldest of seven children. She joined the RCAF in 1951 as an Air Traffic Controller.
 

Sheila married Larry Hards in Vancouver, BC in 1953. They were blessed with their first child, Lorry, in 1954. Over the years, and several moves, their family grew, adding Mike, Pat, Donna, and Mark. In 1962 they moved to Fort St. John, making it their forever home, and completing their family with the birth of their daughter, Teresa in 1963.
Sheila lost her first husband to a battle with cancer in 1987.


Sheila married Leo Volz in 2003.


Sheila is survived by her husband Leo Volz; her children, Mike (Rhonda) Hards,Pat (Sharon) Hards, Donna (Bill) Rector,
Mark (Tracy) Hards,Teresa (Dwain) Cromarty; her grandchildren, Shannon (Jamie) Stewart, Darilyn Hards, Travis Kent, Rachel Cromarty, Kaleb Cromarty, Lisa Jewell, Heather (Eric) Taylor, Gary (Krystle) Jewell; her great grandchildren, Natalie Meidlinger, Mason Stewart, Jasmine Jewell, Donovan Jewell, Alex Taylor; her daughter-in-law Carol Hards, sister Colleen (Jim) Lippert and family, sister Jean Shaw and family, brother Russell (Tracy) Elliott and family, brother-in-law Walter Plato and family, as well as the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren Sheila was blessed with through her second marriage.


Sheila is predeceased by her first husband Larry Hards, eldest son Lorry Hards, grandson Tyler Hards, sister Nancy Plato, sister Donna Russell, brother Tom Elliott, brother-in-law Dave Russell, and brother-in-law John Shaw.


Sheila, we were all blessed to have you in our lives in the many roles you were given, as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, co-worker and friend.

You will be missed but never forgotten.


A special thank you to Dr. ChiJi, a true angel, for all of the years of care, love and compassion.
Also, a special thank you to Jenny and the amazing staff and residents at Heritage Manor. We were truly blessed to have so many ‘angels’ taking care of our sweet Sheila.
To the many caring doctors, nurses, health care aides, SLP, OT, PT and all others, at the Fort St. John Hospital and the Cancer Clinic, we are thankful to you all for the care and kindness given to Sheila.
