Obituary of Ivan Clancy Bartlett

In Loving Memory of Ivan Clancy Bartlett

May 3, 1967 – April 2, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ivan Clancy Bartlett, a proud member of Doig River First Nation, who resided in Devon, Alberta. Ivan passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 57.

Born on May 3, 1967, in Fort St. John, BC, Ivan was the beloved son of the late Emma Gail Bartlett and Clancy Elmo Bartlett. He grew up on a farm, where he developed a deep connection to the land, animals, and nature—values that remained with him throughout his life.

Ivan was known for his strong work ethic and versatile skills. He began his career in the oil patch as a young man and went on to work as a long-haul truck driver, oilfield operator, and heavy-duty mechanic. He was passionate about Harley Davidson motorcycles, loved working on vehicles, and had a keen eye for photography.

Ivan had a gentle spirit and a special bond with animals. He had a unique way with birds—feeding ravens from his hands and showed the same care and respect for foxes and even a winter-visiting marten. Music was another source of joy in his life, and he cherished attending concerts with his partner, Clare.

Ivan is lovingly remembered by his partner Clara Parenteau; his children Sydnee Lafleur and Tyson Lafleur; his stepchildren Robin Walker, Cristina Rifo, and Vanessa Rifo; and his grandchildren Stephen, Sophia, Kevin, Julian, and Matteo. He is also survived by his sister Irma Bartlett; aunts Margaret Davis, May Apsassin, and Heather Davis; great-aunt Madeline Davis; and uncles Robert Dominic and Danny Dominic. He will also be deeply missed by extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Emma Gail Bartlett and Clancy Elmo Bartlett, Julie Lafleur (mother of Sydnee and Tyson), his nephew Patrick Clancy Bartlett, and grandparents Charlie and Jean Dominic, and Mary Davis.

A wake will be held on Monday, April 14th at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, April 15th, beginning with drumming and a tea dance at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 12:00 PM, and a meal afterward to honour and celebrate Ivan’s life.

Ivan will be remembered for his love of family, friends, the land, and the animals he respected so deeply. His gentle nature, quiet strength, and acts of kindness leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
