Obituary of Ella Marie Murchie
Ella Marie Murchie was born July 19, 1936 to Harvey and Irene Beaudin at Maryborough Township, Wellington County, Ontario and was the eldest of six children.
Marie was married to Eli Baumann on October 10, 1957 at Niagara Falls Ontario and is survived by their four children, Debra (Wally), Darrell (Elizabeth), Bonita (Kevin), Tamara (Michael); stepson, Mike (Ala); 15 grandchildren, Chad (Nikki), Christopher (Kassandra), Ashley, Darlene, Justin, Shanda (Steven), Kessler, Suzanne (John), Andrew, Veronica, Michael; eight great-grandchildren, Jayden, Tylease, Brogan, Deklynne, Treyton, Dominic, Reuben and Rachelle.
In May of 1973, Marie and Eli moved their family to B.C., north of Fort St. John, where they pioneered on Blueberry Farm. Marie fell in love with working in the farm greenhouse where her green thumb was very evident. Eli would choose to leave the farm and his family in 1981, returning to Ontario to reside with his brother and two spinster sisters. In order to provide for herself, Marie left Blueberry Farm and worked as a cook for Mae’s Kitchen at Pink Mountain, B.C. After leaving Mae’s Kitchen, Marie moved to Evergreen Acres Farm, and later, The Shepherds Inn, before finally moving into Fort St. John in 1994 to live with her daughter Bonita.
In early 1995, Marie met and married Ron Murchie on March 5, following the passing of his first wife. It was a brief courtship and Marie gained a stepson, Mike, whom she welcomed with an open heart and open arms. Mom loved her acreage and garden at the corner of Swanson’s Lumber Road for many years. Then, in the spring of 2013, she and Ron moved southeast to co-inhabit half of a quarter of land near Wetaskiwin, Alberta, with Mike, Ala and their family, where she would once again garden and help take care of many chores around their new home until she was no longer able to do so. Marie was a faithful and loving wife to Ron until his passing in November of 2024.
After struggling with her physical health over the past few years, Marie moved into the Seasons
Retirement Home in Wetaskiwin, just after New Years 2025, where she found great happiness
in making many new friends and re-kindling some previous acquaintances.
Marie passed away peacefully at the age of 88, February 25, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, Alberta, following a heart attack February 23rd that she wasn’t able to recover from.
